EUROGI, Apeldoorn, 12/20/05
Recently the first call in the eContentplus programme was closed.
EUROGI participates as a partner in two proposals that were submitted:
1. The ePSIPlus Thematic Network
2. TRANSDI
They both involve a thematic network.
Ad 1: The ePSIPlus Thematic Network will support the implementation of the PSI Directive by facilitating the major opportunities for business to develop added value products and services based on public sector information. This will cover all PSI domains, cross all Member and Candidate States, whilst leading up to the Directive’s 2008 review. It will focus on five major themes identified as a result of the ePSINet Accompanying Measure under the eContent Programme:
1. Legal and regulatory progress and impact (including implementation of the Directive)
2. Public sector organisation and culture change (including compliance with the Directive)
3. Encouraging PSI re-use business
4. Financial impact of the Directive: pricing and charging (including impact on public sector costs and budget)
5. Information management, standards and data quality
The Thematic Network will base its approach on national and industrial participation, a wide-reaching set of structured meetings, carefully prepared to achieve incremental benefit and build iteratively, supported by careful analysis and preparation.
The programme of meetings will be underpinned by a website that will provide ongoing access to the results of these meetings and the current ‘state of play’, deploying news syndication techniques in the process and encouraging ‘reflector’ sites in national languages.
Ad 2: TRANSDI will build a thematic network composed by a critical mass of GI Geographic Information experienced organisations (mainly SDIs Spatial Data Infrastructures and SDICs Special Data Interest Communities) to increase the awareness of the benefits of using quality geographic information and spatial data infrastructures, digitally enriched by semantically well defined metadata. It offers strong coordination activity and a structured 2-year dissemination plan, generating knowledge and consensus across Europe through the use of best practices and solutions (implemented and/or under development at national and regional level). It will be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of using appropriate and semantically defined information and meta-information. TRANSDI has the following main objectives:
1) General:
to raise awareness about using digitally enriched by semantically well defined metadata GI and
spatial data infrastructures
2) Specific:
1. to create a long-lasting collaborative, experienced network able to aggregate a critical mass of
2. regional SDIs, SDICs and European GI stakeholders (public authorities, universities, GI industry, users, associations)
3. on GI enrichment with semantically well defined metadata and web services;
4. to widely distribute in Europe the knowledge of existing enriched digital GI best practices, to create
5. information and awareness for most of the European public authorities, users and stakeholders
6. to satisfy and support the communities’ increasing demand about GI services, within and outside the
7. national boundaries in a social, economic, cost-effective way.
TRANSDI intends to collaborate with EC and with INSPIRE community to be attuned to the expected developments of INSPIRE initiative.
